In brief

Abu Ruwaym Nafi' b. Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Nu'aym, mawla of Ja'una, the Medinan qur'an-reader, one of the Seven Readers; al-Asma'i says his origin was Isfahan, as the hadith master Abu Nu'aym relates in his Tarikh Isbahan. 2

His reading

He was the imam of the Medinans in qur'an-reading, the reader to whose recitation people came and to whose selection they returned, belonging to the second layer after the Companions; he was dark-skinned and given to playfulness. He read under Umm Salama's client, and had the zawiya at Quba' mentioned above; Ibn Abi Uways reports that Malik told him he had read under Nafi'. 2
