Summary
A report that Malik transmits from Nafi' that the daughter of Ubayd Allah ibn Umar, whose mother was the daughter of Zayd ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him), was married to a son of Abdullah ibn Umar, who died before consummating and without a dowry being named. Her mother sought her dowry, and Abdullah ibn Umar said she had no dowry: if she had a dowry we would not have withheld it, nor wronged her. Her mother refused to accept that, so they made Zayd ibn Thabit (may God be pleased with him) the judge, and he ruled that she had no dowry and she had inheritance. 1
