Summary
Malik transmits from Nafi, from Abdullah ibn Umar, that the Jews came to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned that a man among them and a woman had committed adultery. He asked them what they find in the Torah about stoning. They said: they are disgraced and flogged. Abdullah ibn Salam said: you are lying; it contains stoning. When they opened the Torah and one of them placed his hand over the place of stoning and lifted it, the ruling of stoning appeared in it, and the Prophet ordered that they be stoned. Ibn Umar said: I saw the man bending over the woman to shield her from the stones. Malik said: the meaning of yahna (bending) is stooping over her. 1
