Malik transmits from Nafi, from Abdullah ibn Umar, that the Messenger of God ﷺ said, while on the pulpit, speaking of charity and of abstaining from asking: the upper hand is better than the lower hand; the upper hand is the giving one, and the lower hand is the one that asks. 1
