Chain of transmission
Summary
Malik transmits from Nafi that Abdullah ibn Umar divorced his wife while she was menstruating, in the time of the Messenger. Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him) asked the Messenger about it. He said: tell him to take her back, keep her until she becomes clean, then menstruates and becomes clean again; then if he wishes he may keep her, and if he wishes he may divorce her before touching her. That is the waiting period by which God commanded women to be divorced. 1
