Lineage and family

His great-grandfather Amr ibn Hazm was one of the great Companions, whom the Prophet sent to the people of Yemen to teach them the religion. His father Abu Bakr was judge of Medina for Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz, and Umar wrote to him asking for the collection of hadith. 2

His influence on the maghazi

He married Fatima, who transmitted from Amra bint Abd al-Rahman from Aisha, so that many hadiths connected with the expeditions were made easy for him to collect. Many reports were transmitted from him, which Ibn Ishaq, al-Waqidi, Ibn Sa'd and al-Tabari mention, and he had a great influence on the books of biography and the expeditions. 2
