Chain of transmission

  2. Abdallah ibn Abi Bakr

Summary

A report that Malik transmits from Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr (may God be pleased with him), in the chapter on looking during prayer at what distracts you: Abu Talha al-Ansari (may God be pleased with him) was praying in his garden when a small bird, a dabsi, flew about looking for a way out. He was taken with it and followed it with his eyes for a while, then returned to his prayer and did not know how many rak'as he had prayed. He said his property had brought him a trial, so he came to the Prophet ﷺ, told him, and made the garden a charity to God, to be placed wherever He wished. The editor notes that Abu Mus'ab, Suwayd and Yahya ibn Bukayr in al-Bayhaqi transmitted it, and that Ibn Abd al-Barr knows of no other chain for it, which is broken. 1
