«من أدرك ركعة من الصبح قبل أن تطلع الشمس فقد أدرك الصبح، ومن أدرك ركعة من العصر قبل أن تغرب الشمس فقد أدرك العصر»

A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources

Summary

A report that Malik transmits from Zayd ibn Aslam, Ata ibn Yasar, Busr ibn Sa'id and al-A'raj Abd al-Rahman ibn Hormuz, all from Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him), in the chapter on the times of prayer: the Prophet ﷺ made whoever reaches one rak'a of the dawn prayer before sunrise to have caught the dawn prayer, and whoever reaches one rak'a of the afternoon prayer before sunset to have caught the afternoon prayer. The editor notes that scholars consider this catching refers to the time, not that one rak'a is all that is required, and calls it an agreed matter. 1 2
