Chain of transmission
Summary
The first hadith in the chapter on practice in asking for rain. Yahya transmits from Malik from Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr (may God be pleased with him) ibn Amr ibn Hazm (may God be pleased with him), that he heard Abbad ibn Tamim say he heard Abdullah ibn Zayd al-Mazini say: the Prophet ﷺ went out to the prayer ground, asked for rain, and turned his cloak when he faced the qibla. The editor cites Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Nasa'i, Ahmad, al-Shafi'i, al-Tahawi, Muhammad ibn al-Hasan and al-Bayhaqi from Malik's transmitters. Ibn Abd al-Barr says Malik did not mention prayer in it, and the Muwatta transmitters did not differ on that, except that Ishaq ibn Isa al-Tabba' added that the Prophet began the rain-prayer with the prayer before the sermon, and that Sufyan ibn Uyayna, from Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr and Abu Bakr ibn Hazm from Abbad, and al-Zuhri from Abbad ibn Tamim all mentioned the prayer (al-Tamhid). 1
