The first hadith in the chapter on dividing the Qur'an into portions. Yahya transmits from Malik from Dawud ibn al-Husayn from al-A'raj from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abd al-Qari: Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him) said that whoever misses his night portion and reads it between the decline of the sun and the noon prayer, it is as though he had not missed it. The editor notes that Abu Mus'ab, Suwayd, al-Qa'nabi and Qutayba transmitted it in al-Nasa'i (3/260). Ibn Abd al-Barr says this is a mistake by Dawud, since the known report from al-Zuhri from al-Sa'ib ibn Yazid and Ubayd Allah ibn Abdullah from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abd from Umar says that whoever sleeps through his portion and reads it between the dawn prayer and the noon prayer is credited as though he had read it at night, and Ibn Shihab was more exact in memory. The editor adds that Zuhri's raised report is in Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi (581), who called it sound, and al-Daraqutni preferred the stopped version while al-Tahawi preferred the raised. ^{1 2}
