«والذي نفسي بيده، إنها لتعدل ثلث القرآن»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Summary
The first hadith in the chapter on reciting Surat al-Ikhlas and Surat al-Mulk. Yahya's line from Malik from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Sa'sa'a from his father from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri: he heard a man recite Surat al-Ikhlas over and over. In the morning he went to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned it, as if he thought it little, and the Prophet swore that it equals a third of the Qur'an. The editor cites al-Bukhari (7374, 6643, 5013), Ibn Abi Uways, al-Qa'nabi and al-Tinisi, Qutayba in al-Nasa'i, and notes al-Daraqutni's discussion of the variation from Abu Sa'id, from the Prophet or from his brother Qatada ibn al-Nu'man, and Ibn Abd al-Barr's view that both Abu Sa'id and Qatada heard it from the Prophet. 1 2
