In brief
Al-Sa'ib b. Yazid b. Sa'id b. Thumama al-Kindi of Medina, Abu Abdallah and Abu Yazid, the sister's son of Namir; his grandfather Sa'id b. Thumama was an ally of Banu Abd Shams. He said his father took him on pilgrimage with the Prophet when he was seven years old, giving him a share of companionship and transmission. 2
The blessing in his hair
His client Ata' reports that al-Sa'ib's head was black from crown to forelock while the rest was white, and he told him that the Messenger of God passed him while he was playing, wiped his hand over his head, and said "May God bless you" — so that spot never greyed, meaning the place of his palm. 2
Transmission and death
Al-Zuhri, Yahya b. Sa'id al-Ansari, al-Ju'ayd b. Abd al-Rahman, his son Abdallah b. al-Sa'ib, and others narrated from him; al-Zuhri relates that Umar told him "if only you would relieve me of some of this burden," and that no judgeship was established until Uthman's time. He died in 91 AH on the report of al-Waqidi, Abu Ma'shar, and a group — also said 94 AH — while al-Haytham b. Adi diverged with the year eighty. 3
