- Malik ibn Anas
- Muhammad ibn Shihab al-Zuhri
- Humayd ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf
Summary
A report that Malik transmits from Ibn Shihab from Humayd ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf (may God be pleased with him), that Humayd told him that Surat al-Ikhlas is a third of the Qur'an, and that Surat al-Mulk pleads for its reader. The editor notes that Abu Mus'ab and Suwayd transmitted it, and that the copy and al-Tamhid say "equal to a third". Ibn Abd al-Barr said such a thing cannot be said by opinion, and must come by directive, and that it is raised from the Prophet ﷺ by many channels, including from Anas, Ibn Abbas, Uqba ibn Amr, Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him) and Umm Kulthum bint Uqba (may God be pleased with her) (al-Tamhid). 1
