Summary
The first hadith in the chapter on the Night of Decree. Ziyad reports from Malik from Yazid ibn Abdallah ibn al-Had, from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn al-Harith al-Taymi, from Abu Salama ibn Abd al-Rahman, from Abu Said al-Khudri (may God be pleased with him), that the Messenger of God ﷺ used to be in seclusion in the middle ten nights of Ramadan; he was in seclusion one year until the night of the twenty-first, the night from whose morning he would come out of his seclusion, and he said: whoever was in seclusion with me, let him be in seclusion for the last ten nights; I saw this night and then forgot it; I saw myself prostrating in its morning in water and mud; so seek it in the last ten nights, and seek it on every odd night. That night it rained, and the mosque had a roof of palm fronds that dripped, and his eyes saw the trace of water and mud on his forehead and nose from the morning of the twenty-first night. The editor notes that the hadith is relayed (mursal) in Malik's transmission, that it is connected in the two Sahihs and elsewhere through Hisham ibn Urwa from his father from Aisha, and that al-Tirmidhi listed those who transmitted it from Umar, Ubayy and Jabir ibn Samura (may God be pleased with him) and others. 1
