Chain of transmission
- Malik ibn Anas
- Nafi' al-Madani
- Aslam, mawla of Umar
Summary
Malik transmits from Nafi, from Aslam, client of Umar, that he told Abdullah ibn Umar that Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him) saw Talha ibn Ubaydallah in a dyed garment while in ihram, and said: what is this dyed garment, Talha? Talha said: Commander of the Faithful, it is only clay. Umar said: you people are leaders whom people follow; if an ignorant man saw this garment he would say that Talha wore dyed garments in ihram; so do not wear any of these dyed garments, you company. The editor notes that Abu Musab (1041), Suwayd (487), al-Shaybani (425) and Yahya ibn Bukayr (in al-Bayhaqi) transmitted it from Malik. 1
