«لَو لَمْ أجِدْ إلاَّا أن أذْبَحَ شاةً، لكانَ أحَبَّ إلَيَّ من أنْ أصومَ»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Summary
Sadaqa ibn Yasar al-Makki transmits that a man from Yemen came to Abdullah ibn Umar with his hair braided, and said that he had come with a separate lesser pilgrimage. Ibn Umar said to him: if I were with you, or had asked me, I would have ordered you to combine; then he said: take what has scattered from your head and offer. A woman from Iraq asked about the offering, and he said: if he finds nothing but to slaughter a sheep, that is more beloved to him than fasting. The editor notes this is as stated. 1
