Chain of transmission
Summary
Malik transmits from Nafi, from Sulayman ibn Yasar, that Habbar ibn al-Aswad came on the day of sacrifice while Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him) was slaughtering his offering; he said: Commander of the Faithful, we made a mistake in the count; we thought this day was the day of Arafat. Umar said: go to Mecca, circumambulate, you and those with you, and slaughter an offering if you have one, then shave or shorten your hair and return; when next year comes, make the pilgrimage and offer; whoever cannot find one should fast three days during the pilgrimage and seven when he returns. The editor notes that Abu Musab (1430), Suwayd (532) and al-Shaybani (431) transmitted it from Malik. 1
