Chain of transmission
Summary
The first hadith in the chapter on the pilgrimage on behalf of another. Malik transmits from Ibn Shihab, from Sulayman ibn Yasar, from Abdullah ibn Abbas (may God be pleased with him), that al-Fadl ibn Abbas was riding behind the Messenger of God ﷺ when a woman from Khath'am came to ask him for a fatwa; al-Fadl began to look at her and she looked at him, so the Messenger of God turned al-Fadl's face to the other side. She said: Messenger of God, God's obligation of the pilgrimage has reached my father, an old man who cannot sit steady on the mount; may I make the pilgrimage on his behalf? He said: yes. That was in the Farewell Pilgrimage. The editor notes that Abu Musab (1199) transmitted it from Malik, and that this hadith is in the two Sahihs. 1
