Muwatta 95

The first hadith in the chapter on ablution after madhi. Yahya transmits from Malik from Abu al-Nadr, client of Umar ibn Ubayd Allah, from Sulayman ibn Yasar from al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad: Ali ibn Abi Talib (may God be pleased with him) told him to ask the Prophet ﷺ about a man who, when he approaches his wife, emits madhi. Ali said he was shy to ask, since the Prophet's daughter was with him. Al-Miqdad asked, and the Prophet ordered whoever had that to sprinkle his private parts with water and perform ablution for prayer. The editor notes that Ibn Abd al-Barr said the chain is not connected, since Sulayman ibn Yasar did not hear from al-Miqdad or Ali, having been born after al-Miqdad died, and that Ibn Abbas is between them. Muslim, Ibn Khuzayma and al-Nasa'i transmitted from Sulayman from Ibn Abbas that Ali sent al-Miqdad, and the report is in the Sahihayn from Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyya from his father Ali. ^{1 2}
