Chain of transmission
- Malik ibn Anas
- Abdallah ibn Dinar
- Abdullah ibn Umar ibn al-Khattab
Summary
The first hadith in the chapter on the ablution of one in sexual impurity who wants to sleep or eat before bathing. Yahya transmits from Malik from Abdullah ibn Dinar from Abdullah ibn Umar: Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him) told the Prophet ﷺ that he becomes sexually impure at night, and he ordered him to perform ablution, wash his private parts, and then sleep. The editor notes that this chain is the one most narrators preserve, that some transmitted it with Umar saying "O Messenger of God", and that Ishaq al-Tabba' and others transmitted it from Malik from Nafi' from Ibn Umar, and scholars treat the report from Nafi' as unusual. He cites al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Nasa'i and Ahmad, and refers to al-Tamhid. 1 2
