Chain of transmission
Summary
The first hadith in the chapter on the measure of the fast-breaking zakat. Malik transmits from Nafi, from Abdullah ibn Umar, that the Prophet ﷺ made the zakat of fast-breaking from Ramadan obligatory on people: a sa' of dates or a sa' of barley, on every free person or slave, male or female, among the Muslims. The editor notes that Abu Musab, Khalid ibn Makhlad in al-Darimi, al-Qa'nabi in Muslim and Abu Dawud, Ibn Wahb in Ibn Khuzayma, al-Tinnisi in al-Bukhari, Ibn al-Qasim in al-Nasai, Ibn Mahdi in Ahmad and Ibn Majah, Qutayba in Muslim and al-Nasai, al-Shafii, Ma'n in al-Tirmidhi and Yahya ibn Yahya al-Nisaburi in Muslim all transmitted it. Al-Tirmidhi said that Malik added 'among the Muslims' and that no one else from Nafi said it; the editor replies that Ubayd Allah ibn Umar, Kathir ibn Farqad, Yunus ibn Yazid, Umar ibn Nafi (al-Bukhari 1503) and al-Mu'alla ibn Isma'il followed Malik in this addition. 1
