«لا تشتره، وإن أعطاكه بدرهم واحد. فإن العائد في صدقته، كالكلب يعود في قيئه»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Summary
The first hadith in the chapter on buying back charity and returning to it. Malik transmits from Zayd ibn Aslam, from his father, that he heard Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him) say: I gave a noble horse in God's path, but its rider neglected it. I wanted to buy it from him, and I thought he would sell it cheaply, so I asked the Prophet ﷺ. He forbade me to buy it, even if he gave it to me for one dirham, and he compared the one who returns to his charity to a dog that returns to its vomit. The editor notes that Abu Musab transmitted it from Malik, and through him Ibn Hibban and al-Baghawi; Ismail ibn Abi Uways in al-Bukhari, Sufyan ibn Uyayna in al-Humaydi and al-Bukhari, al-Qa'nabi in Muslim, al-Tinnisi in al-Bukhari, Ibn Mahdi in Ahmad and Muslim, and Yahya ibn Qaza'a in al-Bukhari also transmitted it. 1
