Summary
A report that Malik transmits from Abdullah ibn Abdullah ibn Jabir ibn Atik, who said: Abdullah ibn Umar came to us in Banu Mu'awiya, a village of the Ansar. He asked whether we knew where the Prophet ﷺ prayed in our mosque. I pointed him to a side of it. Then he asked about the three things the Prophet asked for there: he asked that no enemy from outside should overcome them, and that they not be destroyed by famine, and he was granted these two; and he asked that their violence not fall on one another, and he was refused. Ibn Umar said: you are right. Then he said: strife will never cease until the Day of Resurrection. The editor notes Ibn Abd al-Barr's report that the Muwatta transmitters differed widely on its chain: some, like Yahya, Ibn Wahb, Ibn Bukayr and Ma'n, did not put anyone between Abdullah and Ibn Umar; some inserted Atik ibn al-Harith; some, like al-Qa'nabi, al-Tinisi and Mutarrif, inserted Jabir ibn Atik; and Yahya's version is more likely, as Ibn Wahb and Ma'n and most transmitters follow it, and al-Bukhari and Abu Hatim affirmed Abdullah ibn Abdullah's hearing from Ibn Umar. Abu Mus'ab and Ishaq ibn Sulayman in al-Hakim, Suwayd, al-Qa'nabi and Ibn Mahdi in Ahmad and al-Shafi'i transmitted it, with Jabir ibn Atik. 1 2
