«بينما رجل يمشي بطريق إذ وجد غصن شوك على الطريق فأخره، فشكر الله له فغفر له»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Chain of transmission
- Malik ibn Anas
- Sumayy mawla Abi Bakr
- Abu Salih al-Samman
- Abu Hurayra
Summary
A report that Malik transmits from Sumayy, client of Abu Bakr, from Abu Salih from Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him), in the chapter on the night and dawn prayers, three hadiths in one context: a man removed a thorn branch from the road and God thanked him and forgave him; the martyrs are five: the one who dies of plague, the one who dies of a stomach disease, the drowned, the one killed by a collapse, and the one who dies in God's path; and if people knew the merit of the call and the first row they would draw lots for them, if they knew the merit of coming early they would race to it, and if they knew what the night and dawn prayers hold they would come to them even crawling. The editor notes that the third part appeared earlier as number 174, and that Ibn Abd al-Barr counted them as three hadiths in one report. He cites al-Bukhari, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasa'i and Ibn Hibban for the thorn branch, and al-Bukhari, Muslim and al-Tirmidhi for the martyrs, and notes that al-Bukhari and al-Jawhari transmitted only two parts. 1 2
