Muwatta 174

A report that Malik transmits from Sumayy, client of Abu Bakr ibn Abd al-Rahman, from Abu Salih al-Samman from Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him), in the chapter on the call to prayer: the Prophet ﷺ said that if people knew the merit of the call to prayer and the first row, they would draw lots for them, and if they knew the merit of coming early to prayer, they would race to it, and if they knew what the night and dawn prayers hold, they would come to them even crawling. The editor explains tahjir as coming early to the prayers, and cites al-Bukhari, Muslim, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasa'i and Ibn Khuzayma. Ibn Abd al-Barr says that several of Malik's transmitters combined three hadiths into one: the hadith of the thorn branch, the martyrs, and this part, which Yahya put in this chapter and not its own. ^{1 2}
