Summary
The first hadith in the chapter on the leeway for a fasting person to kiss. Malik transmits from Zayd ibn Aslam, from Ata ibn Yasar, that a man kissed his wife while fasting in Ramadan and felt great distress over it. He sent his wife to ask Umm Salama, wife of the Prophet ﷺ, and Umm Salama told her that the Prophet used to kiss while fasting. She went back and told her husband, which increased his evil and he said: we are not like the Messenger of God; God makes lawful for His Messenger what He wills. His wife went back to Umm Salama and found the Prophet with her, and he said: what is the matter with this woman? Umm Salama told him, and he said: did you not tell her that I do that? She said: I told her, and she went to her husband and told him, which increased his evil, and the Prophet became angry and said: by God, I am the most God-fearing of you and the most knowing of its limits. The editor notes that Abu Musab (351), Suwayd, al-Shafii in al-Risala, and Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Shaybani (352) transmitted it from Malik, and that it is reported from Abd al-Razzaq (7412) from Ibn Jurayj from Zayd ibn Aslam. 1
