«إن الشمس تطلع ومعها قرن الشيطان، فإذا ارتفعت فارقها، ثم إذا استوت قارنها، فإذا زالت فارقها، فإذا دنت للغروب قارنها، فإذا غربت فارقها»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Summary
The first hadith in the chapter on the prohibition of prayer after dawn and after the afternoon prayer. Yahya's line from Malik from Zayd ibn Aslam from Ata ibn Yasar from Abdullah al-Sunabihi: the Prophet ﷺ told that the sun rises with the horn of Satan, and when it has risen, he leaves it; when it is at its height he joins it; when it declines he leaves it; when it draws near to setting he joins it; and when it sets he leaves it. He forbade prayer in those hours. The editor notes that Abu Mus'ab transmitted it, and al-Bayhaqi, Ishaq al-Tabba' and Ibn Mahdi in Ahmad (4/349), Suwayd, al-Qa'nabi, al-Jawhari in al-Bayhaqi, Utba ibn Abdullah and Qutayba in al-Nasa'i (1/74), and al-Shafi'i in al-Risala (874) and al-Umm, and Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Shaybani (181) transmitted it. The editor refers to Ahmad Shakir's commentary on the Risala and to his own commentary on hadith 66, about al-Sunabihi. 1
