Summary

The first report in the chapter on funeral prayer in the mosque. Malik transmits from Abu al-Nadr, client of Umar ibn Ubayd Allah, from Aisha, that she ordered that Saad ibn Abi Waqqas be brought past her in the mosque when he died, so she could pray for him. People disapproved of her, and she said: how quick people are! The Prophet prayed over Suhayl ibn Bayda (may God be pleased with him) only in the mosque. The editor notes that Abu Musab, Suwayd and al-Qanabi transmitted it from Malik, and al-Daraqutni said in his notes on the Muwatta's reports that it was transmitted connected from Malik and is not established. Ibn Abd al-Barr (al-Tamhid 21/216) says it is broken (munqati) according to most narrators, and Hammad ibn Khalid alone connected it from Abu Salama from Aisha. Muslim and Abu Dawud transmitted it through al-Dahhak ibn Uthman from Abu al-Nadr from Abu Salama, and al-Daraqutni preferred Malik's version over Muslim's. Ahmad, Muslim, al-Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah and al-Nasai transmitted it from Abbad ibn Abdallah ibn al-Zubayr from Aisha, and al-Tirmidhi called it good. 1
