Chain of transmission
Summary
Malik transmits from Ibn Shihab, from Abu Umama ibn Sahl ibn Hunayf (may God be pleased with him), that a poor woman fell ill, and the Prophet ﷺ was told of her illness. He used to visit the poor and ask about them, and he ordered that he be informed when she died. When she died, her bier was taken out at night, and they disliked waking him. In the morning he was told, and he asked them why they had not informed him. They said: we disliked taking you out at night and waking you. He went out and lined people up at her grave, and said four takbirs. The editor notes that Abu Musab, Suwayd, al-Qanabi, al-Shafii and al-Shaybani transmitted it from Malik. Ibn Abd al-Barr (al-Tamhid 6/254) says it is not disputed on Malik's mursal transmission, and that it is connected and sound from other than Malik, and is in the two Sahihs from Abu Rafi from Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him). 1
