«ما من داع يدعو إلى هدى، إلا كان له مثل أجر من اتبعه، لا ينقص ذلك من أجورهم شيئاً»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Summary
A report from Malik that he was told the Prophet ﷺ said: whoever calls to guidance has a reward like the reward of those who follow him, without that diminishing their rewards at all; and whoever calls to error bears a burden like theirs, without that diminishing their burdens at all. The editor notes Ibn Abd al-Barr's view (al-Tamhid 24/326) that the saying is traced to the Prophet through many channels, from Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him), Jarir, Amr ibn Awf and Hudhayfa, and that the hadith of Abu Hurayra is sound in Ahmad, Muslim (8/62), Abu Dawud (4609), al-Tirmidhi (2674) and Ibn Majah (206), and that of Jarir sound in Muslim (3/86–87), al-Tirmidhi (2675) and Ibn Majah (203). 1
