A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Chain of transmission
Summary
The last hadith in the chapter on supplication. Yahya's line from Malik from Zayd ibn Aslam, who used to say: no one supplicates without being in one of three states: either his request is answered, or it is stored up for him, or it is expiated from him. The editor notes that Abu Mus'ab and Suwayd transmitted it, and Ibn Abd al-Barr said such a thing cannot be an opinion or an individual judgement, but must be a directive (al-Tamhid). 1
