Chain of transmission
Summary
A report that Malik transmits as a mursal from Zayd ibn Aslam from Ata ibn Yasar, in the chapter on practice in the congregational prayer: the Prophet ﷺ prayed that his grave not become an idol to be worshipped, and he said that God's anger intensified against people who took the graves of their prophets as mosques. The editor notes that Malik's mursal report has no disagreement, and that it is a rare hadith. He says al-Bazzar claimed Umar ibn Muhammad connected it from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, which Ibn Abd al-Barr counted as sound for those who accept both mursal and connected forms, though the editor holds this rests on a mistake: al-Bazzar's chain was through the weak Umar ibn Muhammad ibn Sahban, not the trustworthy Umar ibn Muhammad ibn Zayd. The editor notes that the wording of the prayer comes from Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him)'s hadith with a good chain in al-Humaydi and Ahmad, and that the statement that God curses those who take their prophets' graves as mosques is preserved from many sound channels, as al-Bazzar said. 1 2
