Summary
A report that Malik transmits from Zayd ibn Aslam from Ata ibn Yasar from Abdullah ibn Abbas (may God be pleased with him), in the chapter on practice at the eclipse prayer: the sun was eclipsed and the Prophet ﷺ prayed with the people. He stood a long time, about the length of the Surat al-Baqara, then bowed a long bow, then stood less long, bowed less long, and prostrated; he did the same in the second rak'a. When he finished the sun had cleared, and he said that the sun and moon are two of God's signs, which are not eclipsed for anyone's death or life, and when you see that, remember God. They asked him about what they saw him reach for and then draw back, and he said he saw Paradise and took a cluster of its grapes, and if he had taken it they would have eaten from it as long as the world lasts; and he saw the Fire, and never a sight like today, and he saw most of its people were women, for their ingratitude, not ingratitude to God but ingratitude to the spouse and the kindness. The editor cites al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Nasa'i, Ahmad, Ibn Hibban, Ibn Khuzayma, al-Shafi'i, al-Darimi and al-Bayhaqi, refers to al-Tamhid, and notes that the word "more terrible" in the printed text has no basis in the manuscripts. 1 2
