Summary
A report that Malik transmits from Abu al-Zubayr al-Makki from Tawus al-Yamani from Abdullah ibn Abbas (may God be pleased with him): when the Prophet ﷺ stood to pray in the middle of the night he opened the prayer with a long supplication, praising God as the light of the heavens and the earth, their standing and their Lord and all in them. He acknowledged that He is the truth, that His word is the truth, His promise the truth, meeting Him is true, Paradise is true, the Fire is true and the Hour is true. He then declared his Islam to Him, his faith in Him, his trust in Him and his turning to Him, and asked Him to forgive what he had done before and after, what he hid and what he showed, and ended by saying He is his God, there is no god but He. The editor cites Abu Mus'ab, Ibn Hibban and al-Baghawi, Isma'il ibn Abi Uways in al-Bukhari's Adab al-Mufrad (697), al-Qa'nabi in Abu Dawud (771), Qutayba in Muslim (4/184) and al-Nasa'i in the Amal al-Yawm wal-Layla, and Ma'n in al-Tirmidhi (3418). 1
