Summary
The first hadith in the chapter on asking for rain by the stars. Yahya transmits from Malik from Salih ibn Kaysan from Ubayd Allah ibn Abdullah ibn Utba ibn Mas'ud from Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhani (may God be pleased with him): the Prophet ﷺ prayed the dawn prayer at al-Hudaybiyya after a rain in the night. When he finished he turned to the people and asked them, "Do you know what your Lord said?". They said God and His Messenger know best. He said: "Some of My servants awoke believing in Me and disbelieving in Me. Whoever said, 'we were given rain by God's grace and mercy', that is a believer in Me and a disbeliever in the star. Whoever said, 'we were given rain by such and such a rising', that is a disbeliever in Me and a believer in the star". The editor cites al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Nasa'i, Ahmad, Ibn Hibban, Abu Awana, Ibn Mandah and al-Baghawi from Malik's transmitters, and refers to al-Tamhid. 1 2
