Overview

A Companion of Hudhayl, an ally of Banu Zuhra, who emigrated to Abyssinia and arrived in the two ships. 1

In the Abyssinian emigrants chapter

Ibn Ishaq names him with Amir ibn Abi Waqqas (may God be pleased with him) among Banu Zuhra, describing him as "their ally of Hudhayl". 1

In al-Isaba

Ibn Hajar gives him his own entry in al-Isaba, no. 5873: "Utba ibn Mas'ud al-Hudhali, full brother of Abd Allah"; from al-Zuhri: Abd Allah was no earlier in emigration than Utba, but Utba died before him — Abd al-Razzaq transmits it in the wording "he was no keener than him" — and he emigrated to Abyssinia where he stayed until he came with Ja'far ibn Abi Talib; it was also said he came earlier and witnessed Uhud and what followed. 2

Tribe

He belongs, per Ibn Ishaq, to Banu Zuhra 1
