al-Anwāʾ (Star Rains)

The anwa' (star-risings) are part of the faith of the people of the Jahiliyya in the stars. They used to say "We were given rain by such-and-such a star-rising," attributing the rain to the rising or setting of a star ^{1 2}.

The author holds that believing the reports of astrologers is, in reality, faith in the stars, and that among their faith in the stars was faith in the anwa' ¹. He refers to the chapter "Explanation of the disbelief of one who says 'we were given rain by the nawʼ'" in the Book of Faith in Sahih Muslim, with al-Nawawi's commentary ^{1 2}.
