Summary
A report that Malik transmits from Ibn Shihab from Salim ibn Abdullah, in the chapter on the ritual washing on Friday: a man of the Prophet ﷺ's Companions entered the mosque on a Friday while Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him) was preaching. Umar asked him what hour this was. He said he had come from the market, heard the call, and did no more than perform ablution. Umar said in disapproval: "And ablution too? You know the Prophet used to order the bath". The editor explains that Umar's rebuke joins his lateness at the Friday prayer to leaving the bath. He notes that Abu Mus'ab, Suwayd, Ibn Wahb and al-Shafi'i transmitted it, that most Muwatta transmitters gave it as a mursal from Salim, and that Ruh ibn Ubada and Juwayriya ibn Asma connected it through Malik, saying from Salim from his father in al-Bukhari (878), and Ibn Mahdi in Ahmad and others did so too; Ma'mar and Abu Uways connected it through Ibn Shihab. 1 2
