Summary

A report that Malik transmits from Abu Ubayd, client of Sulayman ibn Abd al-Malik, from Ubada ibn Nusayy from Qays ibn al-Harith from Abu Abd Allah al-Sunabihi, in the chapter on recitation in the sunset and night prayers: al-Sunabihi came to Medina in the caliphate of Abu Bakr and prayed the sunset prayer behind him. In the first two rak'as he recited the Opening chapter and a short surah from the mufassal. In the third he stood, and al-Sunabihi drew close enough that their garments nearly touched, and heard him recite the Opening chapter and the eighth verse of Al Imran, which asks that hearts not swerve after guidance. The editor notes that Abu Mus'ab, Ibn Abi Uways in al-Bukhari's History, Abd al-Razzaq and Yahya ibn Bukayr transmitted it. 1
