Chain of transmission
Summary
A report that Malik transmits from Humayd al-Tawil from Anas ibn Malik (may God be pleased with him), in the chapter on what is done in recitation: Anas stood behind Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman, and none of them recited the basmala aloud when they opened the prayer. The editor notes that Ibn Abd al-Barr said it is stopped in the Muwatta with most of its transmitters, and that some raised it from Malik, mentioning the Prophet ﷺ, which is not preserved from him. He says that Qatada's report from Anas in the Sahihayn, that the Prophet, Abu Bakr and Umar opened the prayer with "Praise belongs to God, Lord of the worlds", exaggerates the disorder among Anas's transmitters. 1 2
