«إن المصلي ليصلي الصلاة وما فاته وقتها، ولما فاته من وقتها أعظم أو أفضل من أهله وماله»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Summary
A saying attributed to Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Ansari, transmitted by Malik, in the chapter on the general rules of times: a person may pray a prayer in its time, yet what he missed of the beginning of the time may weigh more with him than his family and property. Yahya ibn Yahya follows it with sayings of Malik: whoever is in a journey and delays prayer through forgetfulness until he returns home, prays the resident's prayer if he arrives while the time remains, and the traveller's prayer if he arrives after the time has passed; the twilight is the redness in the west, and when it fades isha becomes due and the maghrib time ends. The editor notes Ibn Abd al-Barr's view that the saying is stopped in the Muwatta, and that Malik did not like the saying. 1 2
