- Muhammad
Summary
A report that Malik transmits from Abu al-Zinad from al-A'raj from Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him), in the chapter on general rules of ablution: the Prophet ﷺ ordered that a vessel be washed seven times when a dog drinks from it. The editor cites al-Bukhari, Muslim, al-Nasa'i, Ibn Majah and Ahmad. He notes that Yahya's wording and most Muwatta versions say "when it drinks", while the well-known wording of Abu al-Zinad's students is "when it laps", the familiar word in the language; Ibn Abd al-Barr claimed Malik did not say "laps", but Rawh ibn Ubada transmitted it that way from him in Ibn Majah. Ibn Hajar said Abu al-Zinad probably narrated both forms, which are close in meaning. 1 2
