Chain of transmission
- Malik ibn Anas
- Yahya ibn Muhammad ibn Tahla
- Abu Sa'id Uthman ibn Abd al-Rahman
Summary
A report that Malik transmits from Yahya ibn Muhammad ibn Tahla from Uthman ibn Abd al-Rahman, that his father Abd al-Rahman ibn Uthman al-Taymi told him he saw Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him) wash with water what was under his waistcloth, that is, cleaning himself with water. The editor notes that Yahya's and Muhammad ibn al-Hasan's version says "he heard", while Abu Mus'ab's says "he saw", which is the sounder and clearer. 1
