Overview
Shahr ibn Hawshab Abu Sa'id al-Ash'ari of Syria, client of the Companion Asma' bint Yazid al-Ansariyya, one of the great scholars of the Successors; he narrated from his patroness Asma', Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him), 'A'isha, Ibn 'Umar, 'Abdallah ibn 'Amr and others. 1
Reports
He presented the Qur'an to Ibn 'Abbas, and while in charge of the treasury took a purse of dirhams over which there was talk. He died in 100 AH or after; some found him weak and others trustworthy, and al-Nasa'i counted his reports from Asma' objectionable. 2
