Summary
Malik transmits from Yahya ibn Said, from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn al-Harith, from Isa ibn Talha, from Umayr ibn Salama al-Dhamri, from al-Bahzi, that the Messenger of God ﷺ went out wanting Mecca while in ihram. When he was at al-Rawha, there was a wild donkey wounded, and he said: leave it, for soon its owner will come. Al-Bahzi came and said: it is yours, this donkey; and he ordered Abu Bakr to divide it among the companions. Then he went on until he was at al-Athaba, where there was a gazelle in the shade with an arrow in it, and he ordered a man to stand by it and let no one disturb it until it had passed. The editor notes that Ibn Abd al-Barr showed that the hadith in Hammad ibn Zayd, Hushaym and Ali ibn Mashar is from Yahya ibn Said, from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim, from Isa ibn Talha, from Umayr ibn Salama, from the Prophet directly, while Malik made it from Umayr from al-Bahzi. 1
