Summary
The first hadith in the chapter on tithes from the People of the Protected Covenant. Malik transmits from Ibn Shihab, from Salim ibn Abdallah, from his father, that Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him) took half a tenth from the Nabat on wheat and oil, intending to increase the flow of goods to Medina, and a tenth on pulses. The editor notes that Abu Musab, Ishaq al-Tabba', Ismail ibn Umar, Said ibn Afir, Abd al-Rahman ibn Ghazwan and Yahya ibn Bukayr transmitted it from Malik, and that al-Shaybani did too. 1
