Summary
Malik transmits, as a mursal report, from Hisham ibn Urwa, from his father: there were two men in Medina, one who dug graves with a niche (lahd) and one who did not. They said: whichever of them comes first does his work. The one who dug with a niche came and dug for the Prophet ﷺ. The editor notes that Abu Musab and Suwayd transmitted it from Malik, and that Ibn Abd al-Barr (al-Tamhid 22/296-297) says there is no disagreement about the mursal transmission from Malik; Hammad ibn Salama transmitted it from Hisham from his father from Aisha with a sound chain, and Ibn Majah transmitted it through Ibn Abi Mulaykah from Aisha with a weak chain. 1
