Summary
A report that Malik transmits as a mursal from Hisham ibn Urwa from his father: the first verses of Surat Abasa were revealed about Abdullah ibn Umm Maktum, who came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Muhammad, bring me near". A great man of the polytheists was with the Prophet. The Prophet turned away from Ibn Umm Maktum and turned to the other, asking whether he saw any harm in what he said. He answered no, by the blood, he saw no harm in what he said. Then the two verses came down. The editor notes that Ibn Abd al-Barr said the transmitters did not disagree on its mursal form through Malik, and that it is connected from Aisha by Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Umawi and Yazid ibn Sinan through Hisham, but Malik is more reliable than them, and al-Tirmidhi (3331) found the connected form strange and preferred the mursal. 1 2
