«إن هذين يومان نهى رسول الله عن صيامهما: يوم فطركم من صيامكم، والآخر يوم تأكلون فيه من نسككم»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Summary
A report that Malik transmits from Ibn Shihab from Abu Ubayd, client of Ibn Azhar, in the chapter on ordering the prayer before the sermon at the two festivals: he attended the festival with Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him), who prayed and then preached, and said these are two days on which the Prophet ﷺ forbade fasting: the day of breaking the fast, which is from the fast, and the day on which people eat of their sacrifices. Then he attended with Uthman ibn Affan (may God be pleased with him), who prayed and then preached and said that two festivals had come together on their day, and whoever among the people of al-Aliya wanted to wait for Friday prayer may wait, and whoever wanted to go back had permission. Then he attended with Ali ibn Abi Talib (may God be pleased with him) while Uthman was besieged, and he prayed and preached. The editor cites al-Bukhari, Muslim, Ibn Hibban, Ahmad, al-Shafi'i and Muhammad ibn al-Hasan from Malik's transmitters, and refers to al-Tamhid. 1 2
