Chain of transmission

  1. Malik ibn Anas
  2. Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Ansari

Summary

A report from Malik that he was told that the first thing considered of a servant's deeds is the prayer; if it is accepted, the rest of his deeds are considered, and if it is not accepted, none of his deeds are considered, in the chapter on practice in the congregational prayer. The editor notes that Ibn Abd al-Barr said such a thing is not an opinion but a directive, and that it is transmitted connected through sound channels from Tamim al-Dari (may God be pleased with him) and Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him) (al-Tamhid). The editor finds Tamim's report sound in Ahmad, al-Darimi, Abu Dawud (866), Ibn Majah (1426) and al-Hakim, while Abu Hurayra's report, although al-Tirmidhi judged it good (413), is weak and unsteady, as al-Daraqutni showed in his Ilal, and al-Mizzi said in Tahdhib al-Kamal that it is an unsteady hadith. 1 2
